Marlene Carney is a 9
Marlene built Star Villas in 1979 and started her short-term rental business which she loves.
She left her job as a school nurse on St. Thomas to devote more time to managing her properties and caring for her guests, many of whom have become friends.
Bob Malacarne has been a licensed EMT since 1995 and served as Chief of St. John Rescue for three years. He is now its Training Officer and writes about emergency services in St. John for the Tradewinds newspaper.
Bob continues to be actively involved in St. John, and recently was awarded the St John Rotary Club’s “Community Service Award” (Oct. 2008)
Prior to moving to St. John, Bob was a volunteer firefighter in Rhode Island from 1963 – 1998 while teaching school in the same area (1968 – 1998).
During his 29th year of teaching, the faculty and students of Narragansett Pier School dedicated the yearbook to Bob in 1997.
Bob was also chosen for “Who’s Who in American Teachers” in 1994. His volunteer work in the States included assisting Rhode Island children with cancer through the “Tomorrow Fund.”
Marlene and Bob have been “loving” Star Villas together since 2000.
